Clinton brought global citizenship message to Berkeley

Many thanks to Lark for alerting us to the latest call for communitarian citizenship!

BERKELEY, CA (KGO) -- Former President Bill Clinton brought his message of global citizenship to the Bay Area and asked the question: What exactly is "global citizenship?"

Clinton told a packed audience at Zellerbach Auditorium that the most important question is one that rarely got asked in his White House.

"Most of the time I was in politics we debated three things: What are you going to do, who is going to do it, public or private sector, and how much money you going to spend on it," Clinton said.

According to Clinton, the most important question of the 21st century is the fourth question -- "How?"

"However much money you have whatever it is you proposed to do, how are you going to do it, so you turn your good intentions into positive changes," he said.

Clinton said in the non-governmental area there are immense opportunities that never existed until now.

"Look at what happened after the Haiti earthquake occurred. First you had George Clooney and others putting together this amazing concert 'Hope for Haiti' in no time. They put it together in a week and they raised $66 million. A lot of it was in $10 pops because you could text Haiti in your phone and automatically $10 would be transferred here and $5 in Canada. Amazing," he said.

And people wanted to give time.

"All of a sudden I had teams of doctors from New York who were calling me saying, 'I can only stay five days, but send me down there," Clinton said.

Clinton said global communication has enhanced our abilities and global interdependence has made it a necessity to be involved.

Anaya Roy is chair of the Global Poverty and Practice Program at U.C. Berkeley.

"I think the most important thing he said today here at Berkeley was that it is possible to think about a new moment of communitarianism," she said.

Will Smelko is student body president.

"It makes me realize that there is so much validity to what he is talking about, and it makes me inspired to make me go out and do something," he said.

Clinton spoke at the invitation of Richard Blum, UC regent and husband of Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

On Wednesday night, the former president and Blum are at an event in San Francisco at the Fairmont Hotel in support of the American Himalayan Foundation.

Here's the bottom line for anticommunitarians too:
"It makes me realize that there is so much validity to what he is talking about, and it makes me inspired to make me go out and do something," he said."

Here's Lark's full email he sent out to several alternatve broadcasters today:

Americans and their 'Selected Representatives' Really Need to Wake Up...

... And smell the stench. But we also need to help them along... by telegraphing to them that we know what the insiders know... as well should they. Many of them [like us] still don't fully comprehend the scope of the new language.

We're not in Kansas anymore, folks - unless and until... more of us can [proactively] learn to [meaningfully] counter the communitarian arguments [poor agreements reached by consensus]... for continuing along this path toward global governance [serfdom]... the good ole USA... will one day be just a memory. This means our [S]ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES... too... need to speak publicly [and directly] to... the grand designs of... THE PLAN!

Don't ALL Americans need to know about this? This is NOT some kind of trend - it's the reality nowadays! I suggest strongly that someone besides Darren Weeks interview Niki Raapana about communitarianism and the matrix of communitarian laws that have... enslaved all Americans. She has both researched and written about these topics since before 2000; and I know of no layperson... better informed... to articulate what this portends for the average American citizen. When we speak to the phenomenon called [euphemistically] the New World Order ~THIS~ is what we are referring to - it is that well-thought-out... insidious... and pervasive.

Thanks for taking the time to read my message!

~Lark in Texas

P.S. - Scroll down to the latest Google Alerts keyword search for communitarianism. I have been studying this ~ism [and communitarian law] for four years to date. What I have witnessed is that these words appear online more these days than ever before. And the mainstream news media will only continue to keep us... in the dark... for as long as the powers-that-be can continue to weave their spiderweb around us... without "we, the People" (unsuspecting Americans) knowing a damn thing about it! So I have to ask you here ~once and for all~ are we all so undereducated or ill-informed that we can't even SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD over the airwaves... and then discuss them rationally? Is it just not that important? Does Bill Clinton have it right?

Is America communitarian?

Did communitarianism arise naturally out of society in the United States? No. Is there any evidence to support the claim that it not only arose from our society but that it was the very foundation for our revolution? No, not unless we also have evidence the US was established as half a dialectical equation that would lead to world communitarianism. But the fact is, nothing having to do with American communitarianism is based on factual information. In 2010, we are all just supposed to believe communitarianism is "what is real about this country."
"Why should the Tea-publicans, these Tea Party baggers deform what is real about this country, which is communitarianism, which is about a responsive, strong government?" {emphasis added} VANDEN HEUVEL, http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/week-transcript-president-bill-clinton-president-george-bush/story?id=9584720&page=4
Wild Bill Clinton keeps telling his audiences a little bit different explanation of communitarianism every time he mentions the word in public. Now communitarianism means: people who know we're all in this together. Heh.
"“You need to take back this tea party idea,” he told the wildly cheering crowds in Boston and later in Worcester. “They say that the original Boston Tea Party was anti-government, but that is wrong. The Massachusetts Bay Colony had a strong government. They weren’t liberal or conservative, they were communitarians, which means they knew we’re all in this together. What they opposed was the abuse of power.” But the aim of the Republican Party and Senate nominee Brown, he charged, is to “protect the modern abusers of power” – namely, the corporate and financial leaders whose depredations can only be curtailed by strong, responsive government." {emphasis added} Bill Clinton in Massachusetts campaigning for Coakley. http://mobile.salon.com/opinion/conason/2010/01/15/clinton_coakley/index.html

UPI reported Bill Clinton coined the term "communitarianism" in May 2009!

Did a keyword search for "Clinton communitarian" just to see if the major media picked up the story about him calling for it in Montreal last month. Found this, and it just cracked me up to learn Clinton himself actually coined the term communitarianism "for personal involvement." And even if it was reported in the Telegram newspaper first, why didn't the UPI reporter check the facts of the story before printing such an absurd claim?

Obviously Bill is out there blowing the trumpets for the big Communitarian Opening Gala, and Etzioni gets more invisible. Studying communitaranism is beginning to feel like watching Saturday Night Live reruns of shows made when the whole cast was totally high. Keep remebering Steve Martin's speech on "innocent until proven guilty" when Gilda Radner was accused of being a witch in Salem. Maybe Clinton DID coin the term and maybe Etzioni is the real fraud for claiming he thought it up during lunch one day or maybe communitarian-ra was first used by the Jews in their Babylonian captivity or maybe Niki Raapana made it up as her own personal conspiracy theory or..... naw... nevermind.

Bill Clinton urges 'communitarianism'

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, May 29 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton told crowds in two eastern Canadian provinces there had to be more public involvement in solving the world's problems.

Clinton spoke first on Thursday in St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, and coined his own term -- communitarianism -- for personal involvement, the city's Telegram newspaper reported.

"All of us need to think of our citizenship in terms of what we can do in our communities and halfway around the world," he said. "The truth is, cynicism and pessimism is an excuse to do nothing."

He later flew to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where his address was similar in a call for activism in such areas as AIDS and other disease prevention, poverty and inequality.

Some 3,500 people paid between $139 and $995 to hear the 62-year-old Democrat's speech, the Chronicle-Herald newspaper said.

The Washington Post said Clinton's lucrative public speaking career earned him about $10 million in 2006, 80 percent of which was donated to his charitable foundation.

Friday, Clinton was to participate in a one-hour discussion with former Republican President George W. Bush at Toronto's Air Canada Center domed stadium.

World press plays down Clinton's speech - or flat ignores it

The NYT, the Boston Globe, the LA Times, CNN, CBS, NBC and ALL political talk show hosts are ignoring what Clinton revealed in Montreal. Why can't Americans be TOLD YET?

Bill Clinton praises Canadian unity, the Globe and Mail: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/bill-clinton-praises-canadian-unity/article1326579/ Interesting how the word "communitarianism is mentioned only once in this article, buried in the 10th graph. Compare this to the article in the Suburban News.

Why wasn't this news repeated by the US Press? Shouldn't Americans be told about communitarianism too?

The Star's article follwed the Suburban article: http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/711404--clinton-glad-95-quebec-referendum-didn-t-lead-to-canadian-divorce but focuses on the failed Canadian "divorce". Kathleen at Habeas Corpus Canada explains why the failure was necessary in order to establish a communitarian regional government in Canada.

So what's more important, as in what's "hard news" as opposed to "fluff?" I studied journalism at UMass, Amherst under profs who also sat on city desks. I think Professor Howard Ziff would have flunked me for sure if I'd have chosen Bill's opinion of the Canadian referendum over his call for communitarian consciousness. Such an unfamiliar term gives it a higher placement in the story, but hmm. Did Clinton's speechwriters include the "joke" about separation to give the Canadian press something to write about other than his communitarian "call"?

So where's the US Press coverage of this historical speech? Notta. Zip. Zero. As far as the American press, BOTH RIGHT and LEFT, is concerned, this is NOT NEWS. But as we know, most Americans have never even heard of it. What is news in America nowadays anyway?

It was important enough for the ecofriendlymind.com to post it (along with a whole bunch of other topics related to communitarianism) http://www.ecofriendlymind.com/eco-news/news/Communitarianism.html. They have a link to an article at prison planet where a commentor brings up communitarianism: http://www.prisonplanet.com/russia%E2%80%99s-leaders-see-china-as-template-for-ruling.html

So here's Makegood blog about what else was going on at McGill University when Clinton was there telling us about our shared communitarian consciounsess:
"I chaired two sessions titled “Engaging the Next Generation of Volunteers” at the McGill Leadership Summit on Thursday, October 15th in Montreal. McGill is in the midst of a $750 million capital campaign; they recently passed the $500 million mark. The Leadership Summit is a gathering of campaign volunteers from far-flung committee outposts throughout Canada, the US and beyond."
So others attended from the US and beyond (as Buzz Lightyear says, to infinity.. and beyond!). Why didn't ONE of the attendees from the US send a news story or something to an American newspaper about it? Do they all sign non disclosure agreements like that Ophra class at Northwestern or lke what the reporters sign who attend Bilderberg meetings?

Here's Makegood (who apparently likes the idea) quoting a summary of Bill's speech :
"Clinton concluded by cautioning that an unequal world is not a sustainable world and it is not a safe world. He suggested that it is only by addressing these global inequities, and creating a great balance through the world, and spreading hope for a better future, that the challenges of the 21st century will be met. He believes a communitarian consciousness will be build hope in the world."
Now we're "building hope" too. Great. I'm on a budget here. How much does that cost?

Does it matter to the American "anti" LA-21 programme for sustainable development crowd that Bill made the EXACT same connection I made, and Bill said the EXACT same thing I said?

Bill Clinton just told the world that communitarians are building a sustainable world, and nobody in America needs to be told what that means or that he said it at all?

And yes it sounds perfect, beyond religion, beyond mere spirituality. It's so profound only a few special people understand it, and they are the leaders training NOW to show the rest of us sinners the path to communitarian freedom (which only looks like slavery to the unenlightened). How many suckers worldwide are convinced they are more spiritually evolved and now happily consider themselves communitarians, without the first clue communitarians are liars, thieves and murderers? And I'll just bet the faithful will deny it, no matter how much evidence they see that proves the concept of sustainability is a total lie. Once we come to believe in a power greater than ourselves that can heal the world...we just don't let go of that power very easily.

Just stumbled on this long, referenced academic article by Menno R. Kamminga (International Relations and International Organization, University of Groningen) article that argues:
"Sociologist Amitai Etzioni has gained much attention for his communitarian realist theory of foreign politics. Etzioni’s conception of an adequate, principled and pragmatic, foreign politics emphasizes both empirical and moral factors. This article analyses Etzioni’s foreign politics view from a political-ethical perspective. It claims that Etzioni’s view lacks an adequate ethical and policy foundation and thus falls short political-ethically. Etzioni’s communitarian realism fails to offer proper guidance to foreign politics." http://philica.com/display_article.php?article_id=158
